First and last train planning in Singapore

Check the station, direction and day—not just a general network closing time—before an early or late MRT trip.

Singapore's train system generally runs from early morning until around midnight, but that broad statement is not enough to plan a real early or late trip. The relevant timetable is the one for your origin station, your direction, your day of travel and every connection you need to make.

Find the exact station-to-station cutoff

Start with the origin station and the destination direction. Operator station pages can separate weekday, Saturday and Sunday/public-holiday services, and may list different terminating destinations from the same station. A last train that leaves your first station is not automatically a last train that lets you complete a multi-line journey. Allow time to enter the station, reach the platform, make the interchange and exit at the other end.

Use a three-source check for late travel

First, use a journey planner to understand the expected route and transfer. Second, check the relevant SMRT or SBS Transit station timetable. Third, look for LTA service announcements or live rail status information. These sources have different jobs: a route planner suggests a route, a station timetable identifies the scheduled service, and an announcement tells you whether normal operation has changed.

Give yourself a transfer and walking buffer

Do not arrive at an interchange at the scheduled final departure and expect a stress-free connection. Walking distances, queues, lifts, luggage and unfamiliar platform layouts all add time. For an airport or event journey, also include the walk to your final destination after the train. If missing the connection would be costly, take an earlier service or prepare a non-rail backup.

Re-check on nights with special arrangements

Operating hours can be extended for some festive periods, while planned works can create earlier closures, shuttle-bus arrangements or line-specific changes. Notices can apply only to certain sections or nights, so read the affected date, stations and alternative travel instructions instead of assuming the entire network is operating normally or is closed.

Before a late trip: confirm your origin, final destination, direction, interchange, date and live status. A general “last train” time is not a complete itinerary.

SG Arrivals makes it quick to locate station information and estimated arrivals. For any final-train decision, the official timetable and live operator/LTA notices should be your final check.
